Spice labelling

Arils that have been removed from the nut and dried in the sun are used as seasoning. Commercially available as whole pieces or in ground form.

Taste

The spice has an characteristic aromatic smell and a spicy, warm flavour. Mace is said to have more delicate aroma than nutmeg; however, there is actually not much difference between the two.
